The US Midterm Elections take place on Tuesday, 3 November 2026. Polls begin closing in the eastern United States from around 6:00 pm ET, which is about 3:00 am UAE time on 4 November. Voting continues across US time zones into the early hours of 4 November (ET), and some results may take longer to confirm.
They are held halfway through a US presidential term. Voters elect all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, around a third of the Senate, and many state governors and local officials. The results can shape the balance of power in Congress, which may influence how policy proposals progress.
Markets are forward-looking, so they tend to react to changing expectations rather than to the vote itself. Traders may assess how potential policy changes could influence economic growth, inflation, interest rates and investor sentiment. When expectations shift, price movements may follow.
The impact may extend beyond US equities. US indices such as the US 500, NASDAQ and Dow Jones, major FX pairs including EUR/USD and USD/JPY, Gold and Oil are among the markets traders may watch as new information is digested. There is no guarantee any market will react in a particular way.
