Closing a Position

When viewing your open positions in the Positions tab, you can close positions in various ways:

  • The ‘Close’ button closes a single trade in full.
  • The ‘Close All’ button closes your position in a product entirely, including all individual trades making up that position.
  • ‘Partial Close’ allows you to reduce the size of a trade.
  • ‘Close By’ allows you to net-off two trades with one another.

Close

If you have a position in a product made up of a single trade, simply click on ‘Close’ or ‘Close All’ to close the trade.

Close All

If you have a position in a product made up of a single trade, simply click on ‘Close’ or ‘Close All’ to close the trade.

Close By

If your position contains both long and short trades, you can choose to close a trade by opening another in the same product with the ‘Close By’ function.

If the trade sizes are the same (e.g., 5 long and 5 short), there will be no remaining trades open.

If the sizes are different (e.g. 5 long and 3 short) then after the Close By there will be a remaining position, shown in your Open Positions.

Close By will close the two trades using the opening prices.

  • To execute a ‘Close By’ click on the three vertical dots next to Close and select ‘Close By’.
  • Select the trade you would like to Close By.
  • Review and click on ‘Close Trade’.
  • If the Close By is successful, you will be presented with a Close By trade confirmation.

Your Positions will automatically update with the new information. And your History will update showing the amount of lots closed, as well as the realised P&L.

Investing in CFDs involves a high degree of risk that you will lose your money due to the use of leverage, particularly in fast moving markets, where a relatively small movement in the price can lead to a proportionately larger movement in the value of your investment. This can result in loses that exceed the funds in your account. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and you should seek independent advice if necessary.
