Air Arabia (AIRARABIA) – Introduction and background |
![]() |
Air Arabia PJSC is the Middle East’s first low-cost airline, operating scheduled passenger and cargo services to over 200 destinations across MENA, Asia and Europe from its primary hub at Sharjah International Airport.
Established by decree in Sharjah, the third most populous Emirati city in 2003, Air Arabia launched commercial operations the same year and became the first carrier in the region to operate a low-cost model, breaking even within its first full year of business. From its Sharjah base, the group has since expanded into a multi-hub operation with additional bases in Abu Dhabi, Casablanca and Alexandria, alongside joint venture carriers including Air Arabia Maroc and Air Arabia Egypt. The airline operates an all-Airbus narrowbody fleet and provides travel and tourism services through its subsidiaries.
Air Arabia listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) under the ticker AIRARABIA in July 2007 through an IPO that offered 55% of its share capital to the public, becoming the first Arab airline to go public. Air Arabia’s performance closely tracks regional travel demand.
