BAE Systems Plc (BA) – Introduction and background

BAE Systems (BA) is a British multinational defence, security, and aerospace company, one of the world’s largest defence contractors.

BAE Systems was formed in 1999 through a merger of British Aerospace (BAe) and Marconi Electronic Systems. Via British Aerospace, the company’s roots can be traced back to the early British aircraft manufacturers of the 20th century. BAE Systems is headquartered in London, but operates internationally, with major divisions in the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Australia.

The company’s primary business operations include the design, manufacture, and support of military aircraft, ships, submarines, combat vehicles, radar, avionics, and other defence systems. BAE Systems provides cybersecurity services and develops advanced electronics for military and commercial applications. It serves government and commercial customers worldwide, with a significant portion of its revenue coming from long-term defence contracts in the US and UK.

BAE Systems has been listed on the London Stock Exchange since its formation in 1999, trading under the ticker BA. Its largest shareholders include Capital Research and Management, an American investment manager, and Invesco.

Investing in CFDs involves a high degree of risk that you will lose your money due to the use of leverage, particularly in fast moving markets, where a relatively small movement in the price can lead to a proportionately larger movement in the value of your investment. This can result in loses that exceed the funds in your account. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and you should seek independent advice if necessary.
