Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) – Introduction and background

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is Dubai’s exclusive provider of electricity and water utility services, supplying power and desalinated water to the emirate.

Founded on 1 January 1992 through the merger of the Dubai Electricity Company and the Dubai Water Department — organisations dating to 1959 — DEWA has scaled alongside Dubai’s extraordinary growth to become a utility of global scale. The group today operates over 14 GW of installed generation capacity, serves more than 800,000 customers, holds a 56% stake in Empower, the world’s largest district cooling provider, and advances Dubai’s clean energy ambitions through the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park — one of the world’s largest single-site solar projects.

DEWA listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) in 2022, in what was at that time the largest IPO in the DFM’s history.

Investing in CFDs involves a high degree of risk that you will lose your money due to the use of leverage, particularly in fast moving markets, where a relatively small movement in the price can lead to a proportionately larger movement in the value of your investment. This can result in loses that exceed the funds in your account. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and you should seek independent advice if necessary.
