Opendoor Technologies (OPEN) – Introduction and background

Opendoor Technologies Inc. (OPEN) is a real estate platform connecting sellers to direct cash buyers. Opendoor has developed a platform that allows homeowners to buy and sell residential properties directly through an online marketplace, streamlining the traditional real estate transaction process and avoiding agency fees.

The company’s platform enables homeowners to receive instant offers for their properties, eliminating the need for listing their homes on the market and going through the conventional sales process. Launched in San Francisco in 2014 by Keith Rabois, the company now operates across the United States.

Opendoor launched onto NASDAQ in a 2020 IPO. The company tracks the general trends of both the real estate market and technology, though it is not a conventional estate agent and its business model is in direct competition. Opendoors main shareholders are Goldman Sachs and Sylebra Capital, an investment fund.

Investing in CFDs involves a high degree of risk that you will lose your money due to the use of leverage, particularly in fast moving markets, where a relatively small movement in the price can lead to a proportionately larger movement in the value of your investment. This can result in loses that exceed the funds in your account. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and you should seek independent advice if necessary.
