Launched in October 2011, Litecoin was one of the first alternative cryptocurrencies to emerge after Bitcoin. Litecoin was initially intended as a complementary cryptocurrency to Bitcoin, aiming to address some of Bitcoin’s perceived limitations by creating a more efficient and accessible digital currency. Sometimes referred to as the ‘silver to Bitcoin’s gold’, Litecoin was designed to be more suitable for everyday transactions and smaller purchases. These perceived issues are similar to those addressed by Bitcoin Cash.

Like Bitcoin, Litecoin functions as a decentralised digital currency that operates on an open-source blockchain network. Compared to the better-known Bitcoin, Litecoin features faster transaction times and lower fees with less onerous validation requirements. Like other cryptocurrencies, Litecoin enables peer-to-peer transfers without intermediary financial institutions, provides pseudonymous transactions, and can be traded on cryptocurrency exchanges.

Investing in CFDs involves a high degree of risk that you will lose your money due to the use of leverage, particularly in fast moving markets, where a relatively small movement in the price can lead to a proportionately larger movement in the value of your investment. This can result in loses that exceed the funds in your account. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and you should seek independent advice if necessary.
