Polkadot (DOT) is the native cryptocurrency of the Polkadot network, a platform designed to enable different blockchain networks to operate together.

Launched in 2020, Polkadot was created by Gavin Wood, a co-founder of Ethereum. The network aims to solve the issue of blockchain interoperability by allowing different chains to exchange data and assets without intermediaries. To achieve this, Polkadot has a unique architecture consisting of a main chain and multiple parallel chains known as parachains.
DOT serves multiple functions within the Polkadot ecosystem, including governance, staking, and bonding tokens to connect parachains. The token’s value is influenced by the adoption of the Polkadot network, the success of projects building on its ecosystem, and overall market conditions in the cryptocurrency space. All cryptocurrencies are extremely volatile, and analysts are divided on their long-term value.
